Mercedes-Benz New S-Class Preview
The Mercedes S-Class is known as the best car in the world, and not without reason: it is a good measure of the technology that you might see in most cars a few decades along. And now we have a new version – this is the all-new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
On the inside, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been completely revamped. It now features two large colour displays in the front in place of the traditional instrument cluster with sophisticated climate control system with active perfuming and filtering of the air, and in a world first, heated armrests all around. A rich mixture of leather, wood and high quality plastics adorns the cabin giving it the feeling of a small palace on wheels.
The cabin now gets LED ambient lights, two-spoke wooden steering wheel and a high-quality Burmester music system and heated and adjustable rear seats. Optional extras include an individually customisable ‘first class rear’ business package, heated armrests as well as a specialised air balance package which filters the air in the cabin and sprays a special scent branded by Mercedes themselves.
But the biggest change to the S-Class is that the 2014 version won’t be just one car, but an entire model range. We were always expecting a four car line-up with coupe and cabriolet, but Autocar UK reported that new range will actually have five models.
Apart from the standard and extended wheelbase versions, Mercedes-Benz is expected to offer extra-long-wheelbase Limousine version that will also don the Pullman badge. The most important additions though will be the coupe and cabriolet versions. The coupe S-Class will have two-doors and will replace the current CL-Class to compete with the Bentley Continental GT. Similarly the convertible version will go against the Bentley Continental GTC, now that Merc has pulled the plug on Maybach.
The new 2014 S-Class is expected to debut in India by the end of this year. It will be assembled in India via CKD route. The prices of the new model are expected to be marginally higher than that of the current model.
